Annual Tournament

Mase Madness was born out of love and remembrance. Originally created by Ron and Kate McKan to honor their son, Mason Pierre, who tragically passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) on January 26, 2012, the tournament spent eight years bringing our entire community together. Built on a shared passion for basketball and a commitment to helping youth athletes pursue excellence, the event became a cherished annual tradition before being forced into an extended hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the heartbreaking passing of Ron McKan on September 15, 2025, Southern Tier Surge Athletics proudly partnered with Kate and the McKan family to honor the legacy of both Mason and Ron. This meaningful collaboration birthed the revived Mase Madness and Run for Ron, carrying forward a deep tradition of community, sportsmanship, and youth empowerment. We extend our deepest gratitude to our sponsors, whose generous support serves as the true catalyst for bringing this powerful vision back to life year after year.
